FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Free Websites for California Schools
WildFireWeb Inc. is giving free websites to all 13,000 K-12 schools in California with their latest offering - WebSchoolPro. What’s the catch? Carefully selected sponsors pay for the opportunity to advertise on school websites, and in turn the schools receive a portion of advertising revenue generated from the sites.
As teachers and administrators in Sonoma, Napa, Sacramento, Alameda and San Mateo make their way back to school this fall, they are discovering a host of new feature-rich resources available to them through their websites. Sonoma Valley Unified School District, the first district to sign up for the free service, has converted all of their schools’ websites to WebSchoolPro sites, and according to Barbara Young, Superintendent, "WebSchoolPro allows us to keep our website content current, easily
communicate between schools, classrooms, parents and the broader
community all without cost to our district."
Teachers can create their own virtual classrooms with expandable space for notes, homework assignments, files, resources, photo galleries, calendars and updates for parents. Parents can stay in touch through integrated forums and a built-in alert system. School staff can easily keep schedules and other site content up-to-date with very little technical knowledge. Changes to the websites are done with standard web browsers so the need to buy and install special software has been completely eliminated.
In an era where schools have limited budgets and resources, WebSchoolPro gives power back to educators by encouraging and improving communication, participation and fundraising efforts for schools.
Advertising on School property, be it the gymnasium wall or the school website doesn’t come without controversy, but as CEO Blaine Transue says, “It can be done right, we can change the paradigm of school funding and we can make it a win,-win solution for everyone. There are plenty of appropriate sponsors out there and this gives them a mutually beneficial way to offer support for schools”.
When it comes to defining the criteria for sponsorship and advertising, WildFireWeb encourages districts to actively participate in the process. According to Transue, “It’s time for schools and districts to take control and form positive relationships with mindful sponsors who support education. It’s about doing it correctly…the bottom line is simple, if it doesn’t work for the schools, it doesn’t work for us.”
Advertisers benefit in turn by gaining exposure to a highly targeted audience of schools, educators, parents and students. Since visitors to a school’s website are typically locals, demographics can be determined more exactly than other systems that identify users by their Internet Service Provider’s address or by browser cookies that infringe on a visitor’s privacy and security.
Assisting school communities with technology services and support for over 20 years, founders Steve Sweet and Blaine Transue saw the need first-hand for a unified, consistent and affordable solution for building and managing school websites. They set out on their mission with four goals in mind:
1) Make the power of the Internet accessible to all school communities.
2) Empower educators to leverage technology for their students and their own professional development.
3) Stimulate parent and community involvement in today's busy world.
4) Enhance a school's available funds and fundraising efforts.
WildFireWeb Inc., located at 246 Petaluma Blvd North, in Petaluma CA 94952 provides web based technology solutions for business, education and non-profit organizations.
