The former general counsel for the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery in a construction kickbacks scheme, according to a news release from the tribe. Edward Kovall, was an Ely, Minn., attorney who for many years represented the tribe that operates Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella and a gaming venture that opened last year, Tortoise Rock Casino in Twentynine Palms....
