Pesticide Management Program
RDUSD is dedicated to providing a safe environment to students, staff and anyone who visits our school sites. As part of this safe environment we have adopted The Healthy Schools Act of 2000. This law ensures that all Pesticides used on school grounds are used in a safe and appropriate manner.
Only properly trained and authorized personnel are allowed to apply pesticides on site. Outside Pest Control Operators are informed of district policy and allowed only to use approved pesticides when needed.
The following information is provided to help you view the steps taken by the district to ensure the public safety.
1. The Healthy Schools Act of 2000 -- School Integrated Pest Management Program
2. This is a list of approved Pesticides that may be used on school sites. Not all Pesticides will be used but are made available in case of unforeseen infestations or emergencies.
LIST OF APPROVED PESTICIDES THAT
THESE HERBICIDES MAY BE APPLIED BY DISTRICT TRAINED PERSONNEL
3. NOTIFICATION REGISTRY - The law requires that the district establish a registry of parents/guardians that would like advanced notification of all pesticide applications. If you would like to be notified in advance of all pesticide applications you may contact your child's school office and request a form for adding your name to the advanced pesticide application list.
4. District procedure.
a. Before a pesticide is applied, those on the notification list will receive a 72 hour notice prior to the application.
b. Prior to application the school site will post warning signs informing the public of the impending application 24 hours in advance. The signs will stay up a minimum of 72 hours after application.
c. Records of all applications will be kept at each site and made available to the public on request.
d. Pesticide labels and MSDS will be kept on site for all pesticides on the district approved list and available to anyone with questions about the products used.
e. The California Department of Pesticide Regulation has also established a website for more information. This site is http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/
5. The district has adopted an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that helps to reduce and even eliminate pesticides on school grounds. The district has designated Danny Alexander as IPM coordinator. The IPM coordinator will look for and initiate the use of alternatives to pesticides whenever possible. Pesticides will be used only as needed and will be the least toxic and most effective available.
For information on the IPM program you may contact Danny Alexander at (916)997-0820 or danalex95242@yahoo.com. You may also contact your local school office.
