Shaner is a master in bonsai, the 1,500-year-old Japanese art of growing miniature trees in just a couple of inches of soil. She's also the first non-Japanese citizen to be given the title of "Bonsai Master" by the Nippon Bonsai Association in Japan, which required a five-year internship in Japan....

East Bay Dish has the story on the new project from Tina Tamale , who has been running Tina Tamale Catering. It's called ~LA SNACKERIA~ and will offer "Chino Latino" food, like quesadillas with Oaxacan cheese and char siu-style pork, and boba frescas, or aguas frescas with tapioca....

Winos, I have some updates for you! Am thrilled with the news that the beer and wine license for ~BRIGHT'S LES CLOS~ has kicked in, which means they have now extended their hours from 8am-12am daily . I can't wait to start trying items on chef Shawn Gawle's menu with some sick wines....

On a recent Tuesday night at Kingston 11 , a newish Jamaican restaurant in Oakland's Uptown neighborhood, dancehall reggae was playing on the speakers, the braised oxtails were on point, and four out of five servers and two-thirds of the customers were people of color. Among them were a young guy in braids, an Asian couple on a date, and a group of older African-American women bedecked in earth-toned pantsuits, out celebrating some special occasion....
