Message from the Principal, Liz Schott
Welcome to our school's new website. It is the product of a collaborative process involving parents and staff. We welcome and appreciate your feedback on its content and organization. I would like to thank Becky Garlock, a parent of a Brook Haven student, for her tireless efforts on behalf of this project.
Pine Crest is a small, neighborhood school of approximately 200 K-5th graders in Sebastopol. Our focus is Multi-Age Education, facilitated by a high level of parent participation in the classroom. Every student in our school is in either a Kindergarten through Second grade class, or a Third through Fifth grade class. Students and their families form a learning community that spends three years together. Every effort is made to also keep the same teacher with the class. In addition to our academic focus on the California State Content Standards, we emphasize The Toolbox Project, a social-emotional curriculum, and the principles of The Peaceful Playground. Our disciplinary focus is on "catching 'em being good" as described by B.E.S.T., Building Effective Schools Together.

Kindergarten Registration and Sneak Peek Weeks
If you have a child who will turn five years old by December 2, 2010, s/he may start Kindergarten this August. In order to help you make the best decision possible about where to start your child's school years, we open our K-2 classrooms for walk- throughs in the Spring: March 15-19. Visits are scheduled between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., or between 10:45 and 11:45 a.m. From 10:10 to 10:30 a.m. each day during Sneak Peek Week, we have a Q & A session with the Principal and teachers. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to do research on this very important decision. Sneak Peek Week is also available at Park Side School.
