Bates Elementary School

My name is Barbara Moriearty and I have been teaching for 29 years in grades 1,2,3,4, and 5. For the past 24 years I have been teaching at Bates School. My classes and I have certified as Model and Master Classrooms in Reading Renaissance for the past 7 years. During my time outside the classroom, I enjoy figure skating, reading, and gardening.

Our class has set homework assignments Mondays through Thursdays. You can expect a Math Problem Set and spelling words to study. Less frequently, students will be assigned handwriting, grammar, writing, and reading. At other times, students will be given short science or social studies work to do. I encourage extra reading at home-- especially reading with parents or other adults. Please ask to see your child's Agenda which should have the day's homework listed. Another important communication tool is the Wednesday Messenger. It is an orange folder that comes home each Wednesday. Please initial it and return it to school.
