Rio Vista High School Special Education Services
Students don’t always learn at the same pace, and it isn’t uncommon for a student to fall behind or struggle at some point in their academic career. Rio Vista High School cares about the well-being of every student and provides access to several services—including tutoring, mentoring, and counseling services—to help each student achieve to his or her highest potential. We encourage parents and students to voice their concerns and needs so we can work together to find a solution that works for everyone.
Special Education Programs on Campus
Rio Vista High School provides programs and services to students that are identified with disabilities. The specialized instruction and services are targeted to address the unique needs of each child, regardless of the type or severity of the disability. At Rio Vista High School, a general education teacher, special education teacher, related service provider, or any combination of providers may provide the instructional support services.
Current Programs
504 Plans-A 504 student is a child who has a recorded physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities (including working and learning). This includes those students who are not eligible for special education and those students who meet the eligibility criteria under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Accommodation plans are designed to assist teachers and students in the general education classroom.
Resource Program-Through the Resource programProject, special education students at the comprehensive sites are supported in the general education environment by a variety of service providers including teachers, paraprofessionals, peer tutors, and community volunteers. Special Education students are enrolled in study skills classes taught by Special Education teachers to support their successes in general education courses.
Special Day Class Program-The special day class program at RVHS are for students who, because of social/ emotional issues, cannot access their educational needs in a traditional setting. Mental Health and Psychological services are accessed through the special day class programs Decisions to place a student in the classes are made at the IEP meeting with approval by the parents.
Independent Living Skills Program- This program serves severely handicapped students. Functional academics and an adaptive living skills curriculum are provided by special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other service providers. Students participate as appropriate in other site-based campus activities.
Transition Partnership Program (TPP) isavailable to seniors who are recommended by special education teachers and the IEP team. TPP is an elective class that assists with vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities who are clients of the Department of Rehabilitation.
